Review #889 (2022)
From “The Marquess Collection” comes this cask strength release. It is matured in First Fill Bourbon casks. White fruits in the smell – fresh and baked. Herbs and a dash of vanilla.
Loads of flavours in the taste due to the high strength, but not a heavy alcohol kick – delicious! White fruits, oak spices, butterscotch and just a hint of citrusy notes – perhaps mainly orange? The oak spices get dominant in the finish after a couple of sips.
I am very surprised by the array of flavours, with regards to the alcohol kick – or absence of said! Remember, the whisky is 56.1%!! This is a great “all-around” whisky, great for many occasions. With a dark beer, a cigar, in the garden on a warm summer day or in the Scottish Highland – I could continue… I will give this 85/100 (20/22/21/22).
