Review #868 (2022)
This is matured for 4 years in Port casks. And it’s no ordinary Port casks, but 50 liter casks, build with a mix of staves from Ruby and Tawny Port! Only 400 bottles were made in this batch. Hazelnuts, ripe plums and dried fruits in the smell. A bit of oak spices and berries in the background.
Raisins and a bit of tobacco in the taste. Fine balance of sweetness as well. Some dried fruits, but actually not as dominant as you would think. Grapes – almost like young Armagnac – in the finish. Some dark chocolate and burned oak.
I feel like having an old Tawny Port right now, so something is right about this whisky! A great whisky that could be great for many occasions – alongside a beer, with a good cigar, with a big steak, etc (I don’t have to say neat, do I?). I will give this 86/100 (22/22/21/21).
