Review #846 (2021)
This is an unpeated Ardnamurchan single cask, from a Spanish oak Sherry Butt, with the cask number 440. 693 bottles were made. Some dry, dried fruit sweetness in the smell. A touch of oak and vanilla-raisins. Also, a touch of cloves in the background – very intriguing!
Very dry in the taste (in the very good Oloroso kind of way). Loads of dry fruits, with a touch of spices. Just a hint new make notes in the background. The finish is long and warm, and the spices comes a bit forward.
What a smell, what a taste, what a finish and what a balance! This six year old (yes – SIX year old) Sherry matured single cask got it all (except for the elegance of an old whisky)! I’m a fan of Ardnamuchan – that’s it! I will give this 91/100 (23/22/23/23).
