Review #894 (2022)
This is from the series Barrel Selection, and is finished in a Marsala cask (for 3 years!!!). It’s a single cask, with the cask number #1397, and only 272 bottles were made. The heaviness of the Marsala mixes great with the light and fresh Tobermory style! What a fantastic deep smell – red berries, dried fruits and oak spices (cinnamon baked apples).
Quite aggressive at first in the taste. It’s the tannins and the alcohol together that really gives it a kick. Dates, rum soaked raisins and vanilla. The finish is just so elegant. The deep dark fruity notes just lingers off in the mouth, as the heat diminishes…
The quality of Tobermory is always very good, in my opinion. This is not just good, it is fantastic!! The long finish of the Marsala mixes with the light and elegant Tobermory style, in a way that makes the angels sing (and me for that matter)! If you like Marsala, you got to hunt this down! I will give this 92/100 (23/23/23/23).
