Review #871 (2022)
This is matured in a mix of American and European Oloroso Sherry casks. Light oak spices and a bit of dried fruits in the smell. Vanilla and baked apples, with hints of citrusy notes in the background.
The citrusy notes come forward in the taste. Raisins and pears, with a dash of orange. The sweetness really shows itself in the finish. Overwhelming vanilla sweetness and honey, mixed with some winter spices.
A young, but classic Speyside whisky, with the characteristic Macallan DNA. This is not a “big” whisky, but it’s a fantastic starter, or a great choice to introduce to people new to whisky. I will give this 80/100 (20/20/20/20).
