Review #905 (2022)
This is made of local grown barley and is the first whisky Cotswolds released. It is matured in first fill Bourbon casks and red wine (STR) casks. Citrus and tropical fruits in the smell. Definitely some red wine cask influence in the background.
Malted barley and spices in the taste. Some fruitiness from the red wine casks, and sour marzipan. The finish is long and spicy. The 46% suits the whisky quite well.
A fine first release, start of a range, whisky for a young new distillery. The STR casks gives the young whisky a boost of flavours and draws the attention a bit away from the youthfulness of the whisky. I will give this 80/100 (19/20/21/20).
