Review #934 (2023)

This is the first edition in the “Workshop Series” and is a Blended Scotch (63.8% grain whisky and 36.2% Single Malt), but with all the whisky from one distillery – Borders Distillery. 5988 bottles were made. It is distilled in 2019 and bottled in 2022, so obviously quite young. A mix of spices (oak spices and the spices you get in rye whiskies), white fruits and loads of citrusy notes in the smell.

Quite spicy in the taste – clearly you feel the rye here. Besides the fresh white fruits, like apples and pears, you also get some tropical fruits (like pineapple). The finish is medium and fresh, with the fruits dominating. Actually, it’s quite well balanced!

It is no secret in the taste, that this is a very young whisky. However, it is a very interesting 1st release from a Scottish distillery – other 1st releases are much more conventional. I like a touch of fresh air, and I will give this 80/100 (19/20/20/21).
