Review #902 (2022)
This is the 2021 edition of the 30 year old Double Cask from Macallan. This is matured in a mix of American and European Oloroso Sherry casks. Loads of dried fruits in the smell. Honey, toffee, oak and spices.
Heavy Sherry and oak influence in the taste, with a great oily mouthfeel. Tannins as well. Spices and dried, with just a bit acidity/citrusy notes to balance it all out. The finish is long and “oaky”, with some light sweetness that adds to the balance.
It is an experience to try these old bottles, and especially Macallan, as the prices are running higher and higher, leaving them harder and harder to come by. One of those bottles I will probably never try again. I will give this 89/100 (23/22/22/22).
