Review #214 (2015)
This NAS whisky from Glenmorangie is matured in Missouri Ozark Oak Casks. It is full and rich on the nose. First, I thought of Christmas. Vanilla, marzipan and cinnamon. Then some nutty and oaky notes. For a cask strength whisky it is very friendly in the smell. Perhaps too friendly.
Lot of marzipan in the taste. Some nuts as well. Almonds perhaps. A lot of spices and wood influence comes forward in the finish. Black pepper. Black pepper indeed! Almost no sweetness in towards the end.
A great and a bit different Glenmorangie. At 57.1% you don’t have to be afraid of some water, and with all the spiciness I find it really helpful. I think it really opens up the spices in the finish. I will give this 87/100 (21/22/22/22).
