Review #861 (2021)

The Scottish distilleries don’t use it anymore, but Balcones have made this single malt from the classic Golden Promise barley. Over ripe plums (a bit too ripe!) and dark chocolate in the smell. Caramel and some citrusy notes as well.

Dried fruits, burned oak and toffee in the taste. Some sour/citrusy notes as well (not in the complimentary good way)… Strawberry jam, winter spices and oak, lingers out in the finish.

Interesting to try, but yet again, Balcones just have some citrusy/sour oak notes, that doesn’t suit my palate… There are some good things in this whisky, so if your palate is fine with this, you would probably find this very good. However, I will give this 80/100 (19/20/21/20).
