Review #255 (2016)
This is a mix of three different types of casks. Sherry, Port and Sauternes to be precise. A funny mix in the smell. Sweet and fruity and you don’t notice the high ABV that much. Even though the casks is mixed together, you can pick apart the different styles. The dried fruits from the sherry casks, the sweet fruits from the port casks and the dessert like sweetness from the sauternes casks.
First, I get some strange oak influence before the fruit and sweetness appears in the taste. Kind of a mixture of rubber and marzipan. The finish is sweet, but not too sweet, with some great balanced oak.
A funny experiment that almost succeeds. I can’t quite figure out what it takes for the Fifty-One to take it to the next level. Maybe some age, maybe some higher quality casks or maybe it is just the balance in the blend. I will give this 82/100 (20/19/21/22).
