Review #873 (2022)
This is matured in first fill Bourbon and Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks, and is the first release from this new distillery. Only 7.385 bottles were made. Some creamy vanilla and citrusy notes in the smell. White fruits, some peaches and a dash of orange.
Young and malty at first in the taste. Then fresh white fruits (apples and pears). Actually, a quite tasty finish, with some spiciness coming forward. Pepper and cinnamon, in great combination with the creamy vanilla.
Incredible for the age! The balance between the Bourbon and PX Sherry casks are great, and makes this whisky quite interesting, despite the young age. A lot of new distilleries these days, and many of them show promising signs for the future. This is no exception, and I am quite confident that I will be enjoying a lot more whisky from Lochlea in the future! I will give this 84/100 (20/21/21/22).
